The NYPD is presently hiring school crossing guards. Pay for these positions starts at $9.88 an hour and rises to $12.90 after three years. Health insurance is available with 20 hours of work per week. These positions give people an opportunity to work in their communities. Applicants must be able to speak and be understood in English. No formal education or experience is required for the job. All potential guards go through a training program.
