This week, the New York City Department of Education released information for families interested in testing their children for eligibility and possible placement in elementary school Gifted and Talented Programs, kindergarten through third grade, in September 2011. Families interested in having their children participate in the testing – which is required for eligibility to a Gifted and Talented Program – must submit a Request For Testing Form (RFT) by of Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
The Request for Testing Form and the New York City Gifted & Talented Information Handbook 2010-2011 are available to public school students at all public elementary schools, to non-public school students at all Borough Enrollment Offices and to all students at the NYC Department of Education’s website.
The Department of Education will host five borough-wide Parent Information Forums on the Gifted and Talented admissions process. At these sessions, Department staff will present an overview of testing, scoring and placement, and answer questions from families. Each session runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The schedule for the Gifted and Talented Parent Information Forum for Brooklyn is as follows:
